File Requests and Downloads

Request files from readers or give them files to download inside a Stated publication, while keeping the action connected to the same Page or Experience.

· 2 min read

Use file requests and downloads when the publication needs to exchange an asset—not just text.

A file request lets a reader submit material through the publication. A downloads block gives the reader a file you have attached to the publication.

Request a file from a reader

Use a file request when you need supporting material from the reader, such as a brief, source document, image, spreadsheet or signed file.

  1. Add a file request block to the Page or Experience.
  2. Explain exactly what the reader should upload.
  3. State any practical requirements, such as the file type or the information it should contain.
  4. Decide whether reader identification is required before the upload.
  5. Share the publication.

Put the request near the explanation of why the file is needed. For example, a client onboarding Page can explain the project requirements first, then ask for the source assets.

Give readers a file to download

Use a downloads block when the reader needs a file from you, such as a PDF, brief, source asset or template.

Attach only files you have permission to share. Give each download a clear name and a short description so the reader knows which file to choose.

Download events can be tracked as publication activity. They are useful as a signal of engagement, but they do not prove that the reader opened or acted on the file.

Access and privacy

A file request or download follows the publication’s access setting. Choose the visibility level carefully before sharing anything sensitive.

Do not use a public link for confidential source files. Prefer an appropriate controlled-access setting and verify the audience before distributing the link.

Review what happened

Uploaded files and download activity appear with the publication’s results. Review the underlying response details when you need to identify the reader or work with the supplied file.
